Thank you to everyone who attended our latest learning session with Catherine Secundiak! It was a great learning opportunity and an amazing to keep connecting with other Lean Practitioners. If you attended the session, or had a chance to think about the discussion questions, we would love to hear what you learned from the session and how you are going to incorporate it into your everyday work. Discussion Questions · How will we continue to develop problem solvers in the future? · What type of problems will we need to respond to in the future? · How will digital transformation transform Lean? · How will the way we do work change the way we manage work? · What type of cultural changes need to occur to adapt to the future? · How can Lean contribute to sustainability? · What can our community of Lean Practitioners do to support the future of Lean? Key Take Aways from the Session Digital Transformation Digital transformation was a common theme in the discussions. Some shared that the management systems that their organization had in place prior to the pandemic made the transitions that were required without much preparation much easier than if they weren't already established. Others shared that as people are transitioning back to the office some of the improvements that have been made in the past few years are quickly disappearing as people return to the physical workplace. Overall many of the percipients recognized that digital transformation will need to be a big part of Lean in the future, and companies that embrace our digital world will have a competitive advantage (for clients and employees alike!) Culture I think everyone in the session agreed that it is hard to talk about Lean without talking about culture. It was very interesting to hear about the varying levels of engagement within the different organizations. There was discussion around strategic planning/focus for lean improvements and the power of every day leaders promoting and supporting small incremental improvement. Everyone Everyday. Participants agreed that no matter how far along your Lean journey an improvement culture is essential! Certification and Training Participants had a really interesting conversation around the training and certifications that are available for Lean Practitioners. Unlike other areas of focus, like Project Management or Change Management, there isn't one recognized certification for Lean and many felt like this made it difficult at times. Lean Practitioners may not receive the recognition within their field and it tends to makes it tricky to know what type of training one should take in the different stages of the Learn learning. Participants challenged LPAS as a member driven organization to reach out to members about training they have taken and potentially host a monthly session about the topic, or create a catalogue of available training for members. In the end, everyone agreed that there was always more work to do and things to learn! It was a great opportunity to chat about what was working and what people were struggling with. It is important to know that we are not in this alone and LPAS is a great way to build connections.
